Anatomy of a Lash and Brow Makeover Part 2 -  The Brow Tint and Wax.

STEP 3: Get this PARTY STARTED!
The Brow makeover - getting eyebrows right takes time patience and practice. Like anything I didnt get good at this over night. It has taken me a few years to be really confident with waxing brows (and even them sometimes Im NOT confident at all) But here are some really simple rules to follow and you can get them right pretty much every time.
1. Relationship to the face - are the brows to light too dark to song too short too bushy or triangle shaped? Now what is in your bag of tricks to help ENHANCE them? Tinting Shaping or just good old patience and a plan?
How to tell if the shape is correct

Step 1- Hold a brow brush (or eye pencil) to the side of the nose remove any hair that is under that or on the mono brow part of the eye brow
Step 2 - Holding the brow brush in the same place move to the far corner of the eye. This will indicate how long the brow needs to be to frame the face correctly.
Step 3 - Still holding your brow brush on the corner of the nose get the clients to look straight a head then hold the brush across the center of their pupil - this will indicate where the rise of the arch of the brow should be.
These 3 easy steps will give you a really good idea of How the brow should be shaped and where the shaping should occur. As a rule if this is the person first brow wax I will err on the side of caution. WHY? Because you cant put it back.  Remember CONSULTATION never stops If in doubt ask. Give them a compact mirror and show the client WHAT you want to pluck out and let them decide.


The Brow TINT

***Tint should ALWAYS be applied PRIOR to waxing or plucking. The tint can get into the open pores of the skin where the hair has just been removed and cause staining or an infection. ALWAYS TINT FIRST!***

As you can see from the top pic in this group Madeline had really light brows, there was a good shape to work with but they were washed out. I wold normally look to a hair color for reference for a tint Madelines hair was dark with hints of honey. So I did two tints, a honey brown (3.1) and a dark brown (3). Originally I thought that a honey brown may have been sufficient but it wasn't quite as strong as I had hoped for a make over. So we did one over the other.

 

You can see from the comparison the bottom picture looks not over the top but natural subtle and more to the point you can make out the eyebrows. they provide shape and define the face while maintaining a natural look. 

To finish the brows we just needed to wax them. After using the guide that we established earlier It was easy to see on Madeline what we needed to remove to help her have an awesome shape. Once the bulk of the unwanted hairs were removed with wax, I then plucked out the few remaining strays that were ruining the line of the brow.

And now the result -

 There is a beautiful up sweep to the brow, its neat and frames the face beautifully.

Handy home hints

Ok so there are some people that think I'm crazy. I'm used to it really but this is one of those things that I've recommended to clients for ages.

I have a great little massage ball that's like a knobbly little massage ball for my feet or my hands. I've seen these balls sold for anywhere up to$9 or $10 online.

Then One day at the supermarket I found these little gems. Dryer balls. They're knobbly and at a mega outlay of $2.95 they are a bargain for those suffering with sore tired feet.
Go to your local dollar shop and see if you can get some! They rock.

Anatomy of a great Lash and Brow Makeover

This is a HUGE Post, So I am going to break it up in to a few smaller easy to digest chunks.

The eyes have it lash and brow makeover has been a signature treatment at Peachy ever since I started. It one of my favorite treatments to perform because it's easy, dramatic and combines my love of brows, and some massage.
Its not a difficult treatment to perform, but with out a few key ingredients it can be a less than special experience. At Peachy the endeavor is to always make every treatment memorable and awesome.
So this is how we do it.

the Ambiance...

Step 1: Creating the right ambiance.  
The space that you have your treatment in sets the mood. The room should be comfortable and clean and at a good temperature. Your therapist should have towels on the table and something to cover you when necessary (if you get cold) Also in Winter I like to make sure that there is a heat pack or heated blanket on the table so things are extra toasty.

 Step 2: 
 Talk to your client! My wonderful model Madeline was a client who was virtually new to me. I'd seen her once many many moons (and clients) ago, so I needed to TALK to her about what she was looking to get out of her treatment. This is a fundamental step that seems to be overlooked all the time in salons and why I see so many women with misshapen brows that are too short over over plucked. I know that I have been able to help bring back some brows from the brink of destruction (yep dramatic i know!) But for lots of women their brows are really important. They are right there on their face and if you stuff it up EVERYONE will notice (again dramatic but that how people think)
So taking the time to look your client in the eyes and ask them some simple questions before you start ripping the hairs out of their face is just the right thing to do.
Here's a great list of questions:

1. How can I help today? 
2. What do you like about your current eyebrow shape? What changes would you like to make? 
3. Is there anything that bothers you about your brows?
4. Do you have any allergies?
5. Are you comfortable with having a lash tint? 
6. What have you had done in the past? Good expereinces or bad?

Part of helping clients is understanding their needs. Talk TO them and work with them.

A year? Really?

So, this Monday will be a year since my mum died. It's like you just wake up one morning and a full year has disappeared.
There's been a weird void in my life since mum passed, like I keep waiting for her to get back from a holiday or something. But she's not coming back. It's pretty hard at times. There are so many questions that I have for my mum and there are times that I could really use her help.
I'm mostly sad for Miss A, she's not going to have the chance to know her Nanna.
I could wallow all day being sad about my mum but I don't think that would honour her memory. So I choose to focus on the good things.
My amazing partner. My beautiful bubba girl. My family and my friends.
