Testing out the new oil.

So last night I burnt my arm on our vaporiser. Ouch!
But I thought this was a perfect opportunity to test out my new oil (see the previous blog post) and see how well it works.
So this is day one I've just put some oil on it and now we'll see how goes...

The new hotness??

I think I've found some liquid gold.

Its  a new oil blend from my all time favorite place to get oils and things raindrops.

Its called Skin repair blend and I think it might just be filled with awesome.

Lets list 'em
  • Emu Oil - anti inflammatory
  • Calendula - Antiseptic, Antioxidant
  • Carrot - Antiseptic, Antioxidant
  • Hypericum (St. Johns Wort) - anti inflammatory
  • Jojoba - Antimicrobial, consistent to the sebum of the skin
  • Evening Primrose - Antioxidant, Antinflamitory, Hormone Balancing for sebum and skin cell production
  • Sea Buck Thorn - Rejuvenates the mucous membranes of the skin and helps with cellular regeneration.
Now I reckon that sounds pretty cool.

Anatomy of a Lash and Brow Makeover Part 3 - the Lash Tint and the Reveal!

This is the final part of the anatomy of a Lash and Brow makeover - The Lash Tint and the BIG reveal!

Read Part One HERE
Read Part Two HERE

Lash tints tend to go one of two ways REALLY well or horribly wrong. Everyone has a horror story about that time that girl got tint in their eye. It sucks. I've made it my mission to NEVER have that happen. I have had a 99% success rate. There has been one awful time that I NEVER want to relive, needless to say I ask EVERY client to NOT open their eyes while I'm applying tint.

There is a little bit of product and equipment that you will need to have on hand when doing an amazing lash tint.
  • Tissues
  • Make up removal pads
  • Cotton Balls
  • cotton Tips
  • Barrier Cream - this could be Vaseline but I choose to use Mukti Rejuvenating Eye Balm  Why? No petrochemicals (nice) It also has botanical extracts in it that help sooth and protect the delicate eye area so its a Rejuvenating eye treatment AT THE SAME TIME! Double wammy. Love it.
  • Kidney shaped dish
  • Hand towel
  • Massage cream

Step 1 - Cut out some eye protector pads from a folded tissue. Make sure you have your tint out and ready to apply. For Madeline I used a green (7) tint Yep green. It matches green or brown eyes beautifully and for ladies who are a bit more experienced it offers a softer alternative to black, blue back or brown.
Step 2 - get your client to look up so that you can apply your barrier cream to the under eye. Slightly wet our tissue barrier pads and then maneuver them around the under lash area. Apply some more barrier cream to hold them securely in place. Ask you client to close their eyes AND KEEP THEM CLOSED. Apple barrier cream to the upper lid area of the eye right to the very outer corner (this is where you can pay attention to any smile lines and apply a little more of the eye balm.)
Step 3 - Make sure oyur tint is combined well and using a cotton tip with the cotton ripped off on the outer corner of the first eye apply the tint liberally as if applying mascara.  **I always let my client know JUST before I start applying the tint. Generally I say touching their shoulder I am applying the tint on the outer corner of the left eye**
Once the lashes are saturated with tint i tidy the lash line with a cotton tip and then lightly wet a cotton pad and place it in half over the eye applying light pressure to help secure the pad and get the tint on the bottom lash line.
Step 4 - repeat step 3 on the other eye.
Step 5 - Place the hand towel over the clients eyes to help protect them from wanting to open their eyes.
Step 6 - the massage. This is the part of the lash and brow makeover that is different from many other places that will do them. Personally I CANNOT stand to be left alone with goop on my eyes not really knowing what is going on. So I DO NOT under any circumstance leave my client alone with tint on her eyes. As a lash tint take any where up to 15-20 mins a hand massage is often welcomed by the clients as a way to relax and unwind. Pay attention to the time that you start the massage 5-7 mins on each hand gives you ample time to get ready for the last part of the treatment.

Removal of the tint.

Step 1 - Take off the hand towel that is covering the eyes places it around the neck and side of face and over the clothing. Put some cotton wool in each ear (this prevents water getting in the ear becuase I HATE that)
Step 2 - remove the eye pad from one eye. Use this eye pad to remove excess tint from the eye gently moving only out from the inside corner to the out side corner of the eye (not the other way)
Step 3 - Place the kidney dish against the side of the head and ask your client to turn their head slightly into the dish. Make sure there is a secure seal on the side of the face to the dish to stop water from dripping down the face and cheek.
Step 4 - Instruct your client to KEEP THEIR EYES CLOSED! and begin to flush out the tine saturating the eye area and using the cotton ball to wpe away excess tint.  Flush out the eye untill the water runs clear and free of tint particles.
Step 5 - place a Makeup removal pad over the flushed eye.
Step 6  - Repeat for the other eye.

Step 7 - Once both eyes have been well rinsed give your client 2 tissues (one for each hand) and ask them to wipe from the inside corner to the outside corner of their eyes "like they are trying to get sleep out of their eyes" this helps to get any tint that might be caught in the under lashes. Once they feel comfortable they can open their eyes to reveal their luscious lashes!

This is the our finished photo, Madelines brows and lashes are enhanced but remain natural and easy to maintain.
The Peachy "the eyes have it" Lash and Brow Makeover is complete.

Anatomy of a Lash and Brow Makeover Part 2 - The Brow Tint and Wax

Anatomy of a Lash and Brow Makeover Part 2 -  The Brow Tint and Wax.

Read Part One HERE
STEP 3: Get this PARTY STARTED!
The Brow makeover - getting eyebrows right takes time patience and practice. Like anything I didnt get good at this over night. It has taken me a few years to be really confident with waxing brows (and even them sometimes Im NOT confident at all) But here are some really simple rules to follow and you can get them right pretty much every time.
1. Relationship to the face - are the brows to light too dark to song too short too bushy or triangle shaped? Now what is in your bag of tricks to help ENHANCE them? Tinting Shaping or just good old patience and a plan?
How to tell if the shape is correct
Step 1- Hold a brow brush (or eye pencil) to the side of the nose remove any hair that is under that or on the mono brow part of the eye brow
Step 2 - Holding the brow brush in the same place move to the far corner of the eye. This will indicate how long the brow needs to be to frame the face correctly.
Step 3 - Still holding your brow brush on the corner of the nose get the clients to look straight a head then hold the brush across the center of their pupil - this will indicate where the rise of the arch of the brow should be.
These 3 easy steps will give you a really good idea of How the brow should be shaped and where the shaping should occur. As a rule if this is the person first brow wax I will err on the side of caution. WHY? Because you cant put it back.  Remember CONSULTATION never stops If in doubt ask. Give them a compact mirror and show the client WHAT you want to pluck out and let them decide.

The Brow TINT
***Tint should ALWAYS be applied PRIOR to waxing or plucking. The tint can get into the open pores of the skin where the hair has just been removed and cause staining or an infection. ALWAYS TINT FIRST!***

As you can see from the top pic in this group Madeline had really light brows, there was a good shape to work with but they were washed out. I wold normally look to a hair color for reference for a tint Madelines hair was dark with hints of honey. So I did two tints, a honey brown (3.1) and a dark brown (3). Originally I thought that a honey brown may have been sufficient but it wasn't quite as strong as I had hoped for a make over. So we did one over the other.

You can see from the comparison the bottom picture looks not over the top but natural subtle and more to the point you can make out the eyebrows. they provide shape and define the face while maintaining a natural look.

To finish the brows we just needed to wax them. After using the guide that we established earlier It was easy to see on Madeline what we needed to remove to help her have an awesome shape. Once the bulk of the unwanted hairs were removed with wax, I then plucked out the few remaining strays that were ruining the line of the brow.
And now the result -

There is a beautiful up sweep to the brow, its neat and frames the face beautifully.
